BASKETBALL YUKON
Safe Sport and Ethics
Safe Sport
Basketball Yukon is committed to Safe Sport.
We believe all athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers have the right to participate in a safe and inclusive environment that is free of abuse, harassment, or maltreatment.
Basketball should be a positive, empowering and equitable experience for all participants, no matter what age, level, or background.
Canada Basketball has adopted the Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP), which includes a Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).
Basketball Yukon’s policies were developed to ensure our events and programs are free of discrimination and harmful behaviour.
Concussion resources
A concussion is a brain injury that cannot be seen on routine X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs. It affects the way you may think and remember things and can cause a variety of symptoms.
Basketball Yukon follows the Canadian Guideline on Concussion in Sport.
Here are some key points to remember on concussion management:
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion
- Remove the athlete from the game or practice
- Refer the athlete to licensed healthcare professional
- Return to school and then to sport based on the recommendations of a medical expert
For additional resources on Concussions, visit Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC).
Ethics
Basketball Yukon’s expectations for participation are laid out in our suite of policies.
These were developed to ensure a safe and positive environment within Basketball Yukon programs, activities and events. All players, volunteers, coaches, officials and participants are expected to behave in a manner consistent with the ethics and values described in our policies.
Basketball Yukon supports equal opportunity, prohibits discriminatory practices, and is committed to providing an environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and fairness.
