Jamie Shaw made a lasting impact as a coach, teacher, leader and mentor in many places, but most of all in the Yukon. For the last 10 years of his life, he battled cancer daily while channelling energy into everyone around him, inspiring others with his humour, generosity and drive.
Athletic director at F.H. Collins High School from 2007 to 2016 and Vice Principal thereafter, Jamie pursued countless coaching certifications in basketball, athletics, hockey and strength and conditioning.
He coached Team Yukon athletes at the Canada Games, Western Canada Games and Arctic Winter Games, and mentored coaches who now lead communities across the Yukon. Always first in the gym and last to leave, Jamie modelled the hard work he believed would pay off.
Jamie’s legacy lives on through the Jamie Shaw Memorial Fund and the annual Jamie Shaw Basketball Tournament in Whitehorse.
